Three Days of Relaxation and Revelry in BC's Shuswap
A perfect long weekend in BC's Shuswap offers options for outdoor lovers, culture buffs, foodies, and relaxation seekers.
Shuswap Lake is the attraction of this south-central British Columbia area of rugged mountains, forest-lined valleys, grasslands, and lakes.
The Shuswap is a popular place for families and a favourite house-boating and water recreation destination. Salmon Arm is the urban centre on the lakeshore with a long curved wooden wharf, sandy beaches, and the well-loved Roots and Blues music festival.
This area is home to 1,000 km (600 mi) of shoreline, with fishing, hiking, biking, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, and a growing number of wineries.
The Kicking Horse Canyon Project is a 4.6 kilometre section of the Trans Canada Highway, located just east of Golden. Construction has begun, and the anticipated completion date is Winter 2024.
Highway #1 remains open and there are no extended closures planned until April 12, 2021. Overnight closures can be expected on non-holiday weekdays between 10 pm and 7 am, requiring motorists to detour onto Route #93 & Route #95.
