Transportation & Maps
Feet, bikes, and automobiles are the primary modes of transportation for visitors on Galiano Island.
There is no taxi or year-round public bus service, but rental vehicles can be hired and shuttle buses run in the summer. Hitchhiking is an acknowledged part of island culture, so if need be, stick out a thumb and catch a ride.
Pick and choose among a variety of BC Ferries options seven days a week when sailing to Sturdies Bay via Tsawwassen on the BC mainland or from Vancouver Island's Swartz Bay terminal south of Victoria.
Galiano is the first Gulf Islands stop from Tsawwassen aboard the Queen of Nanaimo. Less than an hour long, these sailings leave mid-morning and early evening year-round with extra runs in the summer.
