The 45-piece B.C. Cadet Honour Band is the pinnacle of achievement for cadet musicians, who have worked years to achieve a high level of performance. Many are multi-talented, playing several instruments or adding vocals to the concert. Competition to be part of the band is fierce and the experience is intense. Musicians learn a concert's worth of music in just three days and then tour the province performing each night in four different cities. Featuring music from Disney's Frozen and The Hunger Games as well as a selection of military marches and a special Pipes & Drums performance, this one-night only free performance by B.C.'s best cadet musicians should not be missed.

The Malahat Review, Canada's premier literary journal, hosts its annual WordsThaw symposium March 20-22 at the University of Victoria. Thirty-six Canadian writers will participate in the event. On March 20, eight Canadian readers will take part in an evening reading to celebrate poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction and drama, followed by an after-party for lovers of the written word. On March 21, four separate panels will take place. Topics include self-publishing; children's literature; creative nonfiction; minority voices. One-on-one blue pencil critiquing sessions are also available for pass holders. On March 22, poet Phil Hall will host a Poetry Master Class for 15 lucky participants. Ticket prices vary. It's a one-of-a-kind performance/gallery/visual art experience where kids take select attendees' outfits and remake them into new works of wearable art, with an impromptu fashion show closing the evening. The Royal BC Museum plays host to this event and provides inspiration to the young designers with our large Modern History collection of clothing. Get there early and grab an "I'm In" sticker at the door, and you could be one of the lucky few to step into the Fashion Machine and have your outfit changed forever(Don't panic - we'll have "chicken" stickers for if you DON'T want your clothes altered.)
