Anglers will find many exciting saltwater and freshwater fishing opportunities, just minutes from the downtown core of one of North America’s most vibrant and multicultural cities, Vancouver.
Cast lines with mountains and the city as the view. Protected waters and fishing hotspots just minutes away from Vancouver, and a mild climate means year-round fishing opportunities.
Fishing often takes place within minutes of leaving the dock, making Vancouver well suited for beginners and first-time anglers. Salmon fishing is the most popular activity; charters are available by the day or by the hour. Rockfish, crabs and other shellfish are also easily caught, and trout are found in nearby lakes and rivers.

Fishing Charters from Downtown Vancouver
There are many fishing charters that operate from the heart of the city. Many options are available from Coal Harbour, while Granville Island, one of the city’s most popular tourist destinations, provides anglers with numerous fishing, sightseeing or boating options.
Popular Fishing Areas near Vancouver
- Horseshoe Bay: This popular West Vancouver location is known for its quaint village atmosphere, scenery and easy access to fishing grounds around Bowen Island and Howe Sound. Boat rentals and fishing charters are available, and its unique location central make it a favourite among anglers. Horseshoe Bay is also a popular destination for picnics and exploring nearby Lighthouse and Whytecliff parks.
- Capilano River: This popular West Vancouver salmon fishing spot offers anglers easy shore access and incredible scenery. Anglers line the shoreline and cast for coho and chinook salmon while cruise ships, freighters and tugs pass nearby. Take a trip to the nearby Capilano Fish Hatchery to learn more about these beautiful fish.
- Rice Lake: Minutes from the city, this urban oasis provides a perfect opportunity to introduce fishing to children or first-time anglers. Located near the Seymour demonstration forest in North Vancouver, this small, easily accessible lake is stocked regularly with rainbow trout. A large wheelchair-accessible dock provides easy access to all anglers and washrooms and picnic tables are also provided.
-
Stanley Park Seawall: One of Vancouver’s iconic destinations, the Stanley Park seawall is one of the most popular and scenic locations in the entire city. With miles of shoreline to choose from, anglers can cast a line into English Bay or Burrard Inlet; fishers may not hook the “big one” but for the pure enjoyment of fishing, the seawall is hard to beat.
