Dining
As the biggest city in the Kootenay Rockies, Cranbrook offers a range of dining choices, including the award-winning Allegra Restaurant.
The highway strip that runs through town has all the usual fast food outlets, and there are numerous restaurants scattered around the downtown core, many of which serve "old-school" fare.
St Eugene Mission Resort
Paradoxically, one of the best places to eat in Cranbrook is actually in an old school – at the St Eugene Mission Resort, ten minutes north of downtown. In this grandiose building that was once a residential school for Aboriginal children, the Purcell Grill and the more moderately priced Fisher Peak Lounge present two menus featuring excellent food that's prepared in the same kitchen. Ethnic specials are offered from time to time, including Asian and Aboriginal dishes.
For a tasty and filling breakfast at St Eugene, try the Purcell Grill's "wild house-smoked sockeye salmon and chive rosti, served with poached eggs and herbed hollandaise".

Eating Downtown in Cranbrook
In town, the better dining options include the Lemon Grass Thai Restaurant on 8th Street North, while Allegra Restaurant, also on Van Horne Street South, has won the BC Restaurant and Food Services Association's Food and Beverage Excellence Award two years in a row.
There are a few "niche" restaurants in Cranbrook, but none quite so specific as the Redneck Café at 1115 Baker Street.
