Kayaking & Canoeing
Family kayaking (Dave Heath photo)
Kayaking is one of Bowen Island's signature activities.
The safe, sheltered waters around this island off West Vancouver suit both newcomers and seasoned kayakers. The chance to view local wildlife and marine life further enhances the kayaking experience.
Kayaking around Bowen Island
A great spot for launching kayaks is Snug Cove, where many visitors arrive on BC Ferries. Kayak north, following the forested shoreline toward Cates Bay or Hood Point. Or enjoy an easy paddle south toward the secluded cove at Apodaca Marine Park, budgeting about half an hour to get there. Always watch out for ferries or power boats that may be in the vicinity, and don't forget that life jacket.
Visual delights include the expansive waters of Howe Sound and the tall Coast Mountains toward Whistler.
