Ucluelet offers a variety of scenic ocean cruises and boat tours that highlight the rugged coastline and the Pacific Ocean.
Spend a day or a few hours cruising through the sheltered waters of Barkley Sound and the Broken Group Islands, or take a scenic wildlife cruise along a picturesque coastline dotted with rocks, islands and sunken reefs.
While on a boat tour, be sure to watch for whales – grey, humpback and Orcas (killer whales) are numerous. Also look for colonies of sea lions, dolphins, sea otters and sea birds and keep an eye on the shoreline for foraging bears.
Feeling adventurous? Book a dedicated whale watching trip or fishing charter, or rent a kayak for a few hours or a multi-day paddle.

Short on time? Canadian Princess Resort offers afternoon sightseeing/whale watching cruises on its comfortable 15m/52ft offshore cabin cruisers. Knowledgeable local guides will point out landmarks and wildlife as they cruise among the 100 islands and islets of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.

Regular, inexpensive ferryboat sightseeing can be had through Lady Rose Marine Services. The small coastal freighter Francis Barkley departs Ucluelet’s Whiskey Dock in the afternoon and cruises through Barkley Sound on its way to Port Alberni. Travellers to Ucluelet can enjoy the same scenic trip in reverse: board the vessel in Port Alberni in the morning, and arrive in Ucluelet in time for lunch. Check with Lady Rose Marine Services for up-to-date information as schedule and runs change seasonally.
