Fernie Alpine Resort offers access to three distinct areas of cross-country ski terrain.
Fernie Alpine Resort and Island Lake Lodge have challenging trails suited to advanced skiers. The smooth fairways of Fernie Golf and Country Club are an excellent locale for beginners. Cross-country ski equipment rentals are available at the resort and in town.
Fernie Alpine Resort
Fernie Alpine Resort has over 10km/6mi of Nordic trails, which are regularly groomed and track set for classic cross-country skiing and skate skiing.
The trailhead is accessible from Parking Lot #4, where skiers start with an initial steep uphill, followed by beautiful rolling terrain suitable for intermediate to advanced level skiers.

For a quick outing, choose the Silk/Manchuria Loop (approximately 5km/3mi), or continue on for an additional 5km/3mi by adding the Scandia Loop. Full cross country ski rental packages are available at the Fernie Alpine Resort Rental Shop, located at the resort base area.
Island Lake Resort
For a more strenuous workout, try the 8km/5mi climb to Island Lake Resort. Additional groomed trails are available from the lodge. An advance reservation can secure a Friday or Saturday snowcat ride up to the lake and an excellent lunch at Tamarack Lodge, one of the four buildings that make up the resort. All trails are groomed for classic and skate technique, and are suitable for intermediate to advanced skiers.
Fernie Golf Course
The volunteer groomers of the Fernie Nordic Society maintain 8km/5mi of trails at the Fernie Golf and Country Club. These trails, set for both skate and classic technique, suit both beginner and intermediate skiers. The club runs a children's program.
Drop by the Fernie Visitor Centre for more information on cross-country skiing in the area.
