Wells, nearby Barkerville, and Bowron Lake Provincial Park have limited, but comfortable, accommodations offering typical amenities.

Most are open year round and some have retained the flavor of this historic area. Enjoy the atmosphere of authentic frontier lodgings, stay lake-side, or camp in the wilderness.

Plan ahead during the months of June through September and book accommodation well in advance.

Wells & Barkerville Lodgings

Facilities include one hotel, two motels, and one B&B within the community of Wells. All are open year round. Barkerville, 8km/5mi further on Highway 26, has two cozy bed and breakfasts. Barkerville accommodations are renovated and furnished to reflect gold rush-era towns.

In Bowron Lake Provincial Park (32km/20mi east of Wells), there are lodges or resorts with cabins ranging from basic and rustic to elegantly furnished.


Wells and the surrounding area is known for exceptional camping opportunities. There are private campgrounds within Wells and near Barkerville; a drive-in, BC Parks campground on Bowron Lake; and numerous tenting sites along the Bowron Lake canoe circuit.

Campsites within Wells and near Barkerville accommodate tents as well as smaller RVs. Some have pull-through RV sites and several offer full service sites, hot showers and sani-stations.
