A road trip through the Kootenay Rockies means lakes, waterfalls, mineral hot springs and snow-capped mountains. But it’s the thriving arts communities that will surprise you.

Chris Wheeler’s road trip included the charming heritage architecture and arts and culture scene of the West Kootenays. On the way, he joined locals on an Artwalk in Nelson, rode the Kootenay Lake Ferry to visit the artisans of Crawford Bay, met the wildlife artists of Creston Valley, and took in the Sculpturewalk in Castlegar.
