Powder Highway Giants

Pack your big mountain boards and sense of awe: You’re headed to the Powder Highway’s king and queen of big mountain vertical, Kicking Horse and Revelstoke.

Revelstoke tucks between the Monashees and Selkirks in the snow-deluged heart of BC. With 5,620 vertical feet (the greatest in North American skiing) and 3,000+ acres, the mountain is known for its thigh-burning pitch, abundant tree skiing, powder mania, and slopeside sleeps. Meanwhile, the 100-year-old downtown—the hub of Canadian helicopter skiing—is lively with coffee culture, craft cocktails, newly hip motels, and all-Canadian diversions like five-pin bowling and hockey games.

From Revelstoke, it’s up and over Rogers Pass—a renowned ski-touring zone—to Golden, where Kicking Horse sits atop the Purcells like a crown jewel. Known for uncrowded bowl skiing, stunning vistas, champagne snow, and vertiginous steeps, the mountain delivers its adventurous sprawl (4,460 vertical feet across 3,500 acres) with a low-key vibe and just a few lifts. At the base, a slopeside mini-village supplies the essentials alongside ski-in lodgings ranging from studio condos to luxury homes. Twenty minutes away is unpretentious Golden, the gateway to five national parks.

REVELSTOKE MOUNTAIN RESORT

While the town of Revelstoke boasts more than a century of ski history, Revelstoke Mountain Resort (RMR) is practically brand new. Canada’s newest ski resort claims the longest lift-served vertical in North America at 1,712 metres (5,620 feet). With 75 named runs—43 per cent classified as intermediate and another 45 per cent designated as advanced—strong skiers will find themselves at home on 1,263 hectares (3,121 acres) of terrain.

KICKING HORSE MOUNTAIN RESORT

Tucked among soaring peaks in the Rocky Mountains, Kicking Horse is all about big mountain skiing and champagne powder. Kicking Horse is also home to four alpine bowls and chutes that keep skiers exploring for days. More thrills? The surrounding heli-skiing terrain is seemingly limitless. With an impressive ski-in/ski-out village, Kicking Horse rocks the après scene too, from cozy pubs to fine dining.
