Almost two-thirds of Saturna Island (1440ha/3558ac) is green space.

Much of it is protected by the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve of Canada. As a result, hiking is one of the island's leading participatory sports and there are routes here suitable for all fitness levels.

Brown Ridge

Judged by many to be the finest viewpoint in the Gulf Islands, Mount Warburton Pike (397m/1,303 ft) is named after a 19th century British explorer who settled on Saturna in 1886 and purchased large tracts of the island. The TV tower at the end of bumpy Staples Road marks the start of the spectacular Brown Ridge Nature Trail.

Stay on the high ground for an easy two-hour there-and-back walk along dirt paths utilized by the resident herd of feral goats.
