Terms and Conditions of Competition.

These are the terms and conditions that govern the relationship between you, the entrant and Destination British Columbia (the “promoter“), 12/F 510 Burrard Street, Vancouver, British Columbia Canada V6C 3A8.  Please read them carefully.


The competition is open to all individuals who:

  1. are residents of the UK;
  2. are aged 21 and over;
  3. have a valid email address; and
  4. are the registered users of a valid Instagram account, at the time of entry into the competition.

The following people are not eligible to enter the competition: employees of Trailfinders, Destination British Columbia or any related companies, their immediate family members, agents or anyone professionally connected with this competition.

The promoter reserves the right to verify the eligibility of any participant and compliance with these terms and conditions. The promoter may require such information as it considers reasonably necessary for this purpose.

Internet access, an Instagram account set to public (to permit direct messages from the promoter) and an email address are required to enter the competition.

Entry into the competition is free.  No purchase is necessary.


The promotional period runs from 12:00:01 a.m. GMT on 29th January 2024 to 11:59:59 p.m. GMT on 12th February 2024 (the “Promotional Period“).

The promoter will host a ‘Rainforest to Rockies Wall of Wonder’ at the Outernet, Charing Cross Rd, London, WC2H 8LH (the “Activation“).

To enter the competition, you must:

  1. visit the Activation;
  2. take a video or photograph of yourself at the Activation;
  3. log into your Instagram account;
  4. follow @rainforesttorockies on Instagram;
  5. share the video or photo to your Instagram page and:
  6. tag @rainforesttorockies on Instagram; and,
  7. include the campaign hashtag, #rainforesttorockies.

The instructions provided at the Activation form part of the terms and conditions of this competition. In the event of a conflict, these terms and conditions take precedence.

Limit of one (1) entry per person and per Instagram account regardless of method of entry. If an individual submits multiple entries, only the first entry will be counted and all subsequent entries will be automatically discarded. All entries must be manual. Automated entries are prohibited, and any use of automated devices will result in disqualification from the competition. Separate data charges may apply for online entries submitted using a mobile device.

Entries that are delivered late, are illegible, incomplete, delayed, lost or otherwise not in accordance with these terms and conditions or which the promoter cannot identify due to the participant’s entry being removed or filtered from search or the suspension or termination of the participant’s Instagram account (whether due to failure or non-availability of the platform or any other reason) will not be accepted.

The promoter may, in its sole discretion, disqualify any participant it suspects of being non-compliant with these terms and conditions or if it has any reason to believe that efforts have been made to distort the spirit of the competition. This includes any individual found to be attempting to tamper with the operation of the competition.

If at any time you wish to withdraw from the competition, your request should be made in writing to the promoter at [email protected].

Participants must ensure that their entry:

  1. is their own original work and does not infringe any third-party rights (including without limitation copyright, rights in trade mark, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or any other intellectual property rights);
  2. does not refer to or compare competitor products or services;
  3. is not defamatory or disparaging about the promoter or any other people, products, services or companies;
  4. does not include any brands, logos, trademarks or branded products or services (other than those relating to the promoter);
  5. is not violent, obscene or offensive;
  6. does not depict illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms/weapons, or any activities that may appear unsafe or dangerous or illegal;
  7. is responsible and does not damage the promoter’s reputation or place the promoter in breach of advertising code rules (as determined by the promoter’s in its sole discretion);
  8. is not sexually explicit or suggestive;
  9. is in compliance with the rules, policies and terms of service of the platform where the entry is posted (i.e. Instagram) and all applicable laws, regulations and code rules (and would not place the promoter in breach of any such rules, policies, terms of service or applicable laws, regulations and codes, as determined by the promoter in its sole discretion);
  10. does not include any individuals other than the entrant; and
  11. is otherwise suitable for presentation in a public forum (as determined by the promoter in its sole discretion).

Entries which, in the promoter’s opinion may be deemed offensive, discriminatory, inappropriate, defamatory or which are unlawful or in breach of these terms and conditions will not be accepted and will be disqualified.

The promoter may, in its sole discretion, delete any comment or content posted on the promoter’s page(s) and/or require any participant to alter or remove any content posted on their own Instagram feed, page or story in connection with the competition.

Participants understand that they are acting at their sole risk and that they are solely responsible for compliance with the rules, policies and terms of service of Instagram.

This competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed, or administered by, or associated with, Instagram. Instagram is completely released of all liability by each participant in this competition.


There will be one (1) winner.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. PT (23:00 GMT) on 15th February 2024, one (1) entry will be selected by random draw in Vancouver, British Columbia from all eligible entries submitted during the contest period.

Odds of winning are dependent upon the total number of eligible entries received during the contest period.

Following the random draw, the promoter will attempt to contact the selected entrant by direct message to the social media account used for the entrant’s entry once per day for five (5) consecutive business days (Monday through Friday, excluding statutory holidays).

The selected entrant will have a further twenty-four (24) hours from the time the last attempt to contact that selected entrant was made to respond to promoter via email or phone. If the selected entrant does not respond as required, or responds but is deemed to be ineligible in promoter’s sole discretion, or is unable or unwilling to comply with these terms and conditions, that selected entrant will be disqualified and another potential winning entrant for will be randomly selected from the remaining eligible entries and contacted. These terms and conditions will apply to any replacement winner but they may be given a shorter time to claim the prize.

The promoter is not responsible for any change in an entrant’s Instagram account or for any failure whatsoever of an entrant to receive the promoter’s notification or for promoter to receive a selected entrant’s response.

Participants who have not won a prize will not be notified.


The winner will win a fourteen (14) night trip to Vancouver, Canada for two (the “prize“).

The prize will follow the Trailfinders ‘Rainforest to Rockies’ itinerary (see, and includes:

  1. economy class return-trip tickets from London to Vancouver, Canada for the winner and guest, including taxes, fees, hand luggage and one checked bag per person;
  2. fifteen (15) days car rental (Inclusive of Loss Damage Waiver, Unlimited Mileage, Liability Protection, Provincial and Local Taxes), and
  3. fourteen (14) nights’ accommodation at a 3* hotel allocated by the prize provider, based on the winner and guest sharing one (1) double room (or twin) (or equivalent accommodation at the discretion of the prize provider).

The winner will be contacted by the prize provider with available travel dates and any further prize details.

The prize is subject to the following terms and conditions:

  1. the winner and any driver must be over 21 years to drive in Canada and present a valid UK driver’s license together with a ‘named driver’ credit card to cover any extra charges;
  2. the prize includes one (1) driver only, any additional driver must also take a valid driver’s license and there is an additional fee which would be payable by the winner;
  3. where the winner’s guest is aged under 18 years old, they must have prior written parental or guardian permission to accompany the winner when taking up the prize;
  4. all elements of the prize must be taken at the same time;
  5. the winner and their guest must travel at the same time with the same itinerary;
  6. all prize elements are subject to availability;
  7. the trip must be booked within one (1) month of competition end (i.e. by 12th March 2024) and the trip booked must have all travel completed by 31 December 2024 and cannot be taken from:

01 July 2024 – 5 September 2024
15 December 2024 – 5 January 2025

  1. once booked, the prize cannot be amended or cancelled;
  2. if the winner elects not to, or is unable to, use any part of the prize, the winner will forfeit that part of the prize package;
  3. the prize must be taken in accordance with government guidelines and COVID-19 rules and restrictions in place at the time of travel. The arrangement and additional costs for any COVID-19 testing or other expenses that may be incurred are the sole responsibility of the winner and guest;
  4. all elements of the prize will be booked by the promoter or Trailfinders (the “prize provider“) and the winner agrees to provide reasonable assistance to the promoter or the prize provider for this purpose;
  5. accommodation will be selected by the prize provider at their sole discretion;
  6. a valid credit or debit card may be required from the winner as security deposit when checking into accommodation;
  7. flights will be selected by the prize provider at their sole discretion. Flights may be indirect and not all routings will be available;
  8. any additional baggage or seat selection charges are subject to airline fees and these would be payable by the winner;
  9. the winner and their guest will also need to adhere to any other terms and conditions and/or disclaimers provided as part of the prize;
  10. the promoter accepts no responsibility for any personal items or baggage lost or stolen during the trip;
  11. other than as set out above, personal expenses, travel insurance, visa fees, costs of passports, spending money, additional hotel charges (including food, room service charges and cleaning service charges), optional car rental charges, meals, drinks, tours and excursions, airport transfers between the prize winner’s home and the departure airport; and any other incidentals are the winner’s responsibility, as are any chosen upgrades requested by the winner;
  12. the winner and their guest must procure their own travel insurance and any necessary vaccinations, immunisations or similar and supply proof of adequate insurance to cover the trip to the prize provider upon request;
  13. both the winner and their guest must be legally able to travel to Canada on the date booked for travel;
  14. any additional taxes, costs and expenses incurred during the trip will be the responsibility of the prize winner;
  15. prizes are subject to availability. They are non-transferable, non-refundable and, unless stated, there are no cash alternatives;
  16. in the event that any element of the prize is unavailable (for any reason) or if circumstances beyond the promoter’s control make it necessary to do so, the promoter reserves the right to substitute another item, in its sole discretion, of equal or higher value;
  17. the winner must not seek to sell the prize or advertise the prize for sale, including on any digital platform or social media platform;
  18. in the event of cancellation by the winner, for whatever reason, no alternative prize will be given.
  19. travel arrangements can only be made through the prize provider using products officially represented by the prize provider;
  20. the prize winner will be subject to Trailfinders booking conditions, which can be found here:
  21. the winner is responsible for organising their own passport and visas. The prize provider’s Passport & Visa Service will be able to assist with these arrangements;
  22. the winner and guest will require a passport valid for at least six (6) months on date of travel;
  23. it is the winner’s responsibility to ensure that they have fully complied with all health and immunisation requirements for the countries that they will be visiting. The prize provider’s Travel Clinic is situated at our Kensington High Street Travel Centre in London;
  24. once the prize has been booked, neither the promoter nor the prize provider will be liable for any failure to comply with their obligation if caused by weather conditions, natural disasters, industrial dispute, war, hostilities, political unrest, riot, civil commotion, inevitable accidents, acts of God or any other circumstances amounting to Force Majeure;
  25. it is the responsibility of the winner to provide accurate, up-to-date details and to inform the promoter and/or the prize provider of any dietary requirements, wheelchair or similar access requirements for the winner and/or their guest when taking up the prize. The promoter cannot be held responsible for winner failing to supply accurate information which then affects prize acceptance or fulfilment of their prize.


By entering the competition you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions and by our decisions which are final and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into.

By entering into the competition, each entrant agrees that the promoter may (and shall grant to the promoter in perpetuity a non-exclusive, royalty free licence to) publish, use, edit, alter and duplicate the entry (or any part of it), including, without limitation, by reposting the entry for any purpose whatsoever in the sole discretion of the promoter (including, without limitation, for commercial and/or marketing purposes).

The promoter reserves the right to delay, postpone or cancel the competition and/or amend or alter these terms and conditions in the event of circumstances outside its reasonable control, which it considers make it necessary for it to do so.

By entering into this competition you are not giving the promoter or prize provider permission to contact you for other marketing purposes. The promoter will only send you direct marketing where you have opted-in  to receive the promoter’s newsletter via the promoter’s main company website.

Any personal information supplied in connection with the competition will be used, shared and retained as set out in the Privacy Notice of the promoter posted at By entering this competition you acknowledge that in order to process your entry, it is necessary for your personal information to be transferred to the promoter’s servers in British Columbia, Canada.

Your Personal Information will not be shared with any third parties, except in accordance with these terms and conditions, the Privacy Notice and as may be required by law.

The winner’s name, counties and the prize won will (unless a winner has objected on lawful grounds) be made available two (2) months after the closing date of the competition by emailing the following address: [email protected]. Participants can object to disclosure, or request that disclosure be limited in scope by contacting [email protected].  Nevertheless, the promoter may disclose the surname and county of the winner to the Advertising Standards Authority if required to do so.

This competition and these terms and conditions (including any non-contractual disputes or claims arising out of them) shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English law and any dispute arising out of or in connection with this Agreement shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts, save that participants in Scotland and Northern Ireland may additionally bring an action in their home courts.

This Privacy Notice explains what we do with your personal information in relation to the Win a trip to British Columbia, Canada and experience the journey from Rainforest to Rockies with Trailfinders Competition (the “Competition“) in accordance with applicable data protection laws. In UK, this includes the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 (together the “UK Data Protection Laws“) and in British Columbia this includes the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (British Columbia) (“FOIPPA“).

This Privacy Notice is supplementary to the Competition terms and conditions (“Competition T&Cs”).

This Privacy Notice is provided by Destination BC Corp. (“we”, “us”, “our, or “Destination BC“) acting as data controller, with registered office at 12/F 510 Burrard Street, Vancouver, British Columbia Canada V6C 3A8, in our capacity as a promoter of the Competition.

Part 1 of this Privacy Notice addresses how your personal data is used by us in accordance with the UK Data Protection Laws and Part 2 of this Privacy Notice addresses how your personal data is used by us in accordance with FOIPPA.

Part 1: UK Data Protection Laws

Destination BC will be responsible for the following purposes and information about you:

  1. Personal data we collect about you
    • For all participants: we will collect and use the following types of personal data:
      • account and profile information, such as name, username or handle, and profile image;
      • user-generated content, such as comments, photographs, audio recordings, video provided in response to the Competition, text and hashtags that you choose to upload and post on to our Instagram account (“User Content“); and
    • If you are the winner, in addition to the above, we will also collect:
      • identity data, such as: your title, first and last name, date of birth and country of residence;
      • your contact data, such as postal address, email address, and telephone numbers; and
      • any information you choose to provide to us in communications via Instagram’s messaging functionality.

If you do not provide your information to us, or do not comply with the Competition T&Cs, you will not be able to participate in our Competition. If you are a potential winner, and you do not provide us with the information requested by us for the purposes of the prize fulfilment, then we will not be able to confirm and provide your prize.

  1. How is your personal data collected?

We will collect personal data that you give to us by completing forms or sending us communications (e.g. by post, phone, email or otherwise) or you submit on our social media page accessed via Instagram (e.g. account and profile information and User Content).

  1. How we use your personal data for the Competition

We will use your personal data for the purposes and legal bases set out below:

Purpose for processing – section 1

  • To process your entry into the Competition;
  • Out of all the entries submitted, to randomly draw a potential winner;
  • To contact you by direct message on Instagram to notify you of this and to ask you to confirm your eligibility, in line with our Competition T&Cs;
  • To call you to confirm your eligibility to enter the Competition (including confirmation that you are a UK resident and over 21 years of age)  in accordance with the Competition T&Cs;
  • To contact you to arrange fulfilment of the prize;
  • To share your personal data with Trailfinders Limited (as our prize fulfilment partner), so we and they can provide you with your prize;
  • Receiving your personal information in Canada

Legal Basis for processing: This processing is necessary for our performance of the contract you have agreed to enter with us (i.e. the Competition T&Cs).

Purpose for processing – section 2

  • To respond to enquiries, complaints and/or requests by you in relation to the Promotion.
  • To share and/or receive your Personal Data from our third-party partners.

Legal Basis for processing: This processing is necessary in pursuit of our legitimate interests in managing our business in a commercially prudent manner.

Purpose for processing – section 3

  • To make your name and location (country of residence) available to people requesting that information in accordance with the Competition T&Cs and to comply with the requirements under the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising and Direct & Competitional Marketing (the “CAP Code“).
  • As provided in the CAP Code, the winner can object to us publishing or making available the name or reduce the amount of information published or made available. Please note that this does not affect our obligation to provide the relevant information and the winning entries to the Advertising Standards Authority, the UK’s regulator of advertising, if required to do so.

Legal Basis for processing: We are permitted to process your personal data on the basis that it is necessary to comply with a legal and/or regulatory requirement imposed on us under the CAP Code.

Whilst we use automated decision making as part of the Randomised Selection, we do not make automated decisions when processing your personal data for other purposes.

  1. Who will your data be shared with?
    • For all individuals, we receive and share your personal information via the Instagram platform. For more information about how your personal data is processed by each platform, please consult the privacy notice which can be found at: Instagram (
    • If you are the winner, in addition to the above, your data may be disclosed to Trailfinders Limited to whom the prize is delivered. For more information about how Trailfinders processes your personal data, please consult their privacy notice at
    • We may also disclose your data to any regulatory authorities to comply with any applicable legal obligations.
  1. International transfers
    • Any transfer of your data will be carried out in accordance with the law. Where transfers are not routine, we may rely on a derogation (as appropriate) to legitimise the transfer (including any transfer from the UK to British Columbia as more fully described under paragraph 3 above).
    • If you would like more information about the transfer mechanisms used, please contact us (see How to Contact Us as set out in paragraph 9 below).
  1. Data security
    • We strive to implement appropriate technical and organisational measures in order to protect your personal data against accidental or unlawful destruction, accidental loss or alteration, unauthorised disclosure or access and any other unlawful forms of processing.
    • We aim to ensure that the level of security and the measures adopted to protect your personal data are appropriate for the risks presented by the nature and use of your personal data. We follow recognised industry practices for protecting our IT environment and physical facilities.
  1. Data retention
    • We will only retain your personal data for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, regulatory, tax, accounting or reporting requirements. We may retain your personal data for a longer period in the event of a complaint or if we reasonably believe there is a prospect of litigation in respect to our relationship with you.
    • If you are not successful in the Competition, we will delete your personal data collected for the Competition within the period of 1 year following end of the Competition period.
    • If you are the winner, as part of the Competition, we will securely retain your personal data until 1 year after the completion of the Competition, all elements of the prize and any related publicity activities. After this date your personal data will be deleted.
  2. Your data subject rights
    • Under certain circumstances, you have rights under data protection laws in relation to your personal data:
      • request access to your personal data;
      • request correction, erasure or restriction of your personal data;
      • object to processing of your personal data on the grounds of legitimate interests;
      • request that your personal data is ported (portability);
      • right to withdraw consent.
        • If you wish to exercise any of the rights set out above, please contact us using the details set out under the heading ‘How to Contact Us‘ of paragraph 9 below.
        • You have the right to make a complaint at any time to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK regulator for data protection issues ( We would, however, appreciate the chance to deal with your concerns before you approach the ICO so please contact us in the first instance.
    • You will not have to pay a fee to access your personal data (or to exercise any of the other rights). However, we may charge a reasonable fee if your request is clearly unfounded, repetitive or excessive. Alternatively, we could refuse to comply with your request in these circumstances. In order to comply with your request, we may also need to request additional information to verify your identity.

  2. By uploading and posting your entry and any additional information you choose to submit to our Instagram account, you consent to the disclosure to the general public through our Instagram account, for the purpose of facilitating your participation in the Contest, of:
    • any personal information in your entry, effective as of the date you upload and post your entry; and
    • any additional personal information you choose to upload and post to our Instagram account in connection with the Competition, effective as of the date you upload and post such information.
  1. If you are selected as the winner, you consent to the disclosure by Destination British Columbia to Trailfinders of your first and last name and contact details, including postal address, email address and telephone number(s), for the purposes of confirming you as the winner and arranging for fulfilment of the prize.
