The Fraser River Discovery Centre is a fun and friendly place for families of all ages in the heart of New Westminster, BC. We are here to discover the environment, economy and culture of the Fraser River through rotating exhibits and hands-on activities. We offer guided tours, field-trips, birthday parties, facility rentals and have a gift shop.
Board the M.V. Native, an authentic 100-passenger paddlewheeler, for a adventure on the mighty Fraser River! With live narration about the Fraser and its history, you’ll encounter all the activity of a busy working river as well as the ever-present sights and sounds of wildlife such as seals, ospreys, great blue heron, eagles and with luck, salmon and sturgeon. The lush Coast Mountain Range provides a breathtaking backdrop of BC from a “River point of view.” The paddlewheeler Native and our 40-passenger catamaran Beta Star have a busy spring-through-fall schedule, which includes day trips from New Westminster Quay to Steveston, Fort Langley, and the natural wilderness of Pitt Lake. We offer Discovery lunch cruises, narrated dinner cruises and fun-filled Friday/Saturday Pub Nights. Booking the Native is available all year round for charter cruises, weddings, special events, and private functions. 2019 is our 30th Anniversary! Join us for our special cruise adventures!
The museum consists of three galleries. The permanent gallery at Anvil Centre takes you on a journey of discovery, covering over 10,000 years of New Westminster history and ending in 2010. Gallery 7 picks up where the permanent gallery leaves off. This is a place of engagement and interaction, bringing forth the contemporary stories of our city through discussion, dialogue, and exhibition in a smaller intimate setting. The temporary gallery lets us take a deeper look into many of our city’s more interesting and thought-provoking stories, individuals, and objects. The third gallery can be found at 1865 Irving House, the former colonial home of Captain William Irving, and one of the oldest community heritage sites in B.C.
By Appointment Only The Van Dop Gallery is Canada’s premiere home gallery, exemplifying the union of art and living. Founded by Trudy Van Dop in 1996, the gallery is a one-of-a-kind experience showcasing over 100 artists in a unique contemporary home and garden setting. Visitors feel at home as they explore Van Dop’s lush gardens and myriad of artworks in every room.
