Museums & Heritage Sites, Indigenous Culture
U’mista Cultural Centre is one of the longest-operating and most successful First Nations cultural facilities in BC, founded in 1980 as a ground breaking project to house potlatch artifacts which had been seized by government during an earlier period of cultural repression. The return of the potlatch artifacts not only provided U’mista’s name (‘the return of something important’), and sparked a general trend toward repatriation of First Nations and cultural artifacts, it caused the creation of a physical facility and human resources infrastructure which have been successfully operated for over two decades.U’mista now operates a modern museum and cultural education facility in Alert Bay. Their operations include the museum, an extensive art gallery and gift shop, group tours, and presentations by dance troupes. The facility hosts international scholars, and supports researchers in a range of disciplines.

Off The Grid is fun for all ages and experience levels. Based on Okanagan lake, we offer wakesurf lessons, wakeboard lessons, boat rentals (including equipment and captain) as well as great custom rental packages. All of our drivers and coaches learn from world wakesurf competitor Bryce Wagner. Our coaches are always fun and the best part is they know how to get even the most uncoordinated person up surfing and having a blast. Everyone that comes out with us tells us that boating with us is the highlight of their vacation. We get you off the shores and onto the lake. Bring a big group of your friends or family, load up the boat and have someone take care of all the details for you. With a group on the boat a full day of entertainment is less per person then zip lining, wine tours, skiing, and other popular Okanagan activities. We are the best way to experience the Okanagan.
