Skiing & Snowboarding

Looking up from the town of Golden to the aptly named Dogtooth Range, the view of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is imposing.
With a vertical drop of 1,260m/4,133ft from mountaintop to the village, and 70 inbound chutes, Kicking Horse is one big mountain for skiing and snowboarding.
There are 106 runs, of which 20 per cent are rated beginner, 20 per cent intermediate, 45 per cent advanced and 15 per cent expert. Novices will be comforted to know that there is at least one easy run available from the top of every lift.
Snow and Terrain
Locals speak with reverence about the champagne powder that builds up on this east-facing slope. "Lighter" and "deeper" are two commonly used adjectives.

The Golden Eagle Express gondola, which operates year-round, travels from the village to the top of the mountain, covering the distance of 3,413m/11,266ft in just 12 minutes. In addition to the gondola, two quad chairlifts and a double chairlift access various parts of the mountain. Backcountry skiers and snowboarders regularly use the Kicking Horse lift system to access the "Slackcountry" – the rugged terrain on the back side of the mountain.
Ski and Snowboard Rentals
Equipment rentals are available at the resort from Canyon Creek Outfitters, located in the Glacier Mountaineer Lodge, and at other sports stores in town.
Canada's Highest Elevation Restaurant
The view from anywhere on the mountain is spectacular, but it doesn't get any better than the Eagle’s Eye, Canada's highest elevation restaurant at an elevation of 2,350m/7,705ft. Eight other eateries are scattered around the resort, offering everything from light snacks to sushi.
Getting There and Accommodations
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, which is located 12km/8mi from Golden – it doesn't look that far from town – is often included in a multi-day skiing or snowboarding itinerary with neighbouring mountains, such as Revelstoke Mountain Resort and Panorama Mountain Resort. With options ranging from hotel rooms to condo units, there are numerous accommodations on the mountain.
