Things to Do
Backcountry skiing (Dave Heath photo)
Whitewater Ski Resort offers downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.
After a full day at Whitewater Ski Resort, eating and sleeping might be all snow fans can handle – but there are plenty of après-ski or snowboard distractions vying for people's attention.
Nelson
Explore Nelson – a small city with a big personality. Baker Street is lined end-to-end with heritage buildings that look terrific when draped with a fresh dump of snow.
Check out the craft stores and galleries, boutique clothing and outdoor gear stores, and have dinner at one of Nelson's many excellent restaurants. Take in a cultural event at the Capitol Theatre, or at any one of several smaller performance venues in town.

Spas & Wellness
Look after tired bodies with a massage or spa treatment at Shalimar at the Prestige Lakeside Resort, or visit Mountain Waters Spa, downtown on Victoria Street, for a full range of spa options that includes Watsu.
Water Activities
Relax in the pool, hot tub and steam room at Nelson and District Community Complex. Access is off Hall Street, a block west of Vernon Street.
If driving a further 40 minutes north of Nelson is not too daunting, visit Ainsworth Hot Springs for a soak in the outdoor pools – it's magical when it is snowing.
Festivals and Special Events
Check out the snow sculptures and pack some dancin' shoes for the Whitewater Winter Carnival at the end of January.
The Kootenay Coldsmoke Powder Festival blows into Whitewater in late February. With crazy endurance races, reps from all the major manufacturers in attendance, and more than 100 clinics, Coldsmoke is the event of the season for backcountry skiers. Later in the month, compete in the Tribute Throwdown Rail Jam.
The annual Beach Party wraps up the season, with outrageous events in the spring sunshine of early April.
