Cross-Country Skiing at Lost Lake
The Lost Lake Cross-Country Ski Trails are a five-minute walk from Whistler Village. Trek along 30km/19mi of groomed, track-set trails ranging from gentle slopes to challenging advanced runs. Wind around an alpine lake set in a snowy forest - the lake trail is lit for night skiing too. Visit Cross Country Connection (located in the Lost Lake Passivhaus off Lorimer Road) for trail passes, rentals and lessons, then hop on the free village shuttle for quick access to the trail network.
Cross-Country Skiing in Callaghan Valley
The Callaghan Valley (south of Whistler) is home to the Whistler Olympic Park, which features trails and a day lodge with lessons, rentals, tours and snacks. Set out on more than 90km/60mi of trails groomed for classic and skate skiing. Ski more like a beginner than an Olympian? There are trails for all skill levels. Follow tracks through old-growth forest and enjoy breathtaking mountain vistas.
The Callaghan Country Lodge (13km/8mi ski trip or 45 minutes by snowmobile) offers 42km/26mi of trails track-set for classic skiing. Rent skis from the lodge and enjoy rolling terrain (some trails are dog-friendly) and the beautiful scenery of the Callaghan Valley. Spend a night in the comfortable lodge - there's even to-go lunches available.
Events and Races
The P'ayak Loppet (February) is a cross-country race based on the history of the Squamish Nation, whose warriors traditionally came to the race site to train. Look for events organized by local ski clubs as well, such as the Coast Cup series (December to February).
Practical Points
- Cross-country ski season can begin as early as November and as late as April.
- Trail user fees are common for groomed trail networks. Check with Visitor Centres and local ski clubs for trail maps and information.
- Tours, lessons and equipment rentals are available at many of the larger cross-country ski areas and at some lodges.
- Access to routes may require four-wheel drive and tire chains.
- Be familiar with local weather forecasts and always bring proper equipment. More safety information can be found on the backcountry skiing page.
