Bird Watching

Bald Eagles in a tree

Whistler is on the migratory route of many bird species.

Year-round, look for Steller's jays (official bird of BC), ptarmigans or whiskey jacks. Also try and catch a glimpse of nectar-sipping hummingbirds or salmon-eating bald eagles.

The Whistler Naturalists Club organizes regular birding walks. Seasonal tours are also available in Brackendale, which is the location of the one of world's highest concentration of bald eagles.

From November through March, view one of the world's highest concentration of bald eagles in Brackendale. Watch as the eagles perch on nearby trees waiting to swoop down on the salmon spawning in the Squamish River. Some excursions include a narrated walking tour and binoculars. Brackendale is near Squamish, 45 minutes south of Whistler via Highway 99.

Whistler Naturalists Club

The Whistler Naturalists Club organizes regular events for birders. There is a bird walk on the first Saturday of each month.
