Transportation & Maps
The community of Wells is located approximately 70k/40mi east of Quesnel at the end of Highway 26.
Most of the community streets and side roads are gravel, and although the highway to Barkerville is paved, the road between Wells and the Bowron Lake Provincial Park is not.
Quesnel maintains the nearest towing, car rental and taxi services. Motorized vehicles are not allowed within the town of Barkerville (about 8k/5mi east of Wells). There is free parking at the gates.
Wells receives abundant rain and snowfall. Vehicles should have good winter tires and be equipped with chains and shovels for any winter travel. The residents of Wells call their community a "cell-free zone," meaning that outside of Quesnel, there is little to no cellphone service in the area.
There is a small, regional airport in Quesnel (about an hour's drive away) with regular daily flights from Prince George and Vancouver with Central Mountain Air. A small, paved airstrip 6km/4mi east of Wells is available for small planes and private charters.
