The community of Wells is located approximately 70k/40mi east of Quesnel at the end of Highway 26.
Most of the community streets and side roads are gravel, and although the highway to Barkerville is paved, the road between Wells and the Bowron Lake Provincial Park is not.
Car Travel
Quesnel maintains the nearest towing, car rental and taxi services. Motorized vehicles are not allowed within the town of Barkerville (about 8k/5mi east of Wells). There is free parking at the gates.
Wells receives abundant rain and snowfall. Vehicles should have good winter tires and be equipped with chains and shovels for any winter travel. The residents of Wells call their community a "cell-free zone," meaning that outside of Quesnel, there is little to no cellphone service in the area.
Air Travel
There is a small, regional airport in Quesnel (about an hour's drive away) with regular daily flights from Prince George and Vancouver with Central Mountain Air. A small, paved airstrip 6km/4mi east of Wells is available for small planes and private charters.

Public Transportation
Greyhound operates daily bus service to Quesnel from Vancouver and other BC communities.
A HandyDart bus service for seniors and people with special needs operates between Quesnel and Wells and has wheelchair access. The bus runs to Wells and back every Thursday morning and afternoon and is open to the public. The Wells Visitor Centre, the District of Wells office and the Quesnel Visitor Centre have information regarding routes and bus stops and transferring between communities.

Good driving maps for Wells and street maps of Barkerville Historic Town are available at the Wells Visitor Centre located on Highway 26 west of town, or from the Wells District office on Saunders Street.
The Visitor Centre also has a map of Bowron Lake Provincial Park and the canoe circuit (with great information and tips about the park). Waterproof maps of the Bowron Lake canoe chain are available at the lodges near the park, and a map of facility information can be picked up at the park's registration centre.
