All motor vehicle access to Vancouver Island is by ferry. BC Ferries provides services from the BC mainland, while Washington State Ferries, Black Ball Ferry Line and the Victoria Clipper service the Victoria area from Washington State.

From the ferry terminal in Swartz Bay (30 minutes north of Victoria), follow Highway 17 straight into the city. From there, exploring Victoria and neighbouring towns is a breeze on the island's well-maintained highway and road system. There are plenty of opportunities to detour onto scenic marine routes, or travel up-island along an established driving route to see what the rest of the island has to offer.

Downtown Victoria has plenty of parkades within walking distance of major attractions and charming neighbourhoods. Car rental companies are conveniently located throughout the city and at Victoria International Airport. Scooters, available for rent, are becoming a popular way to motor around the city. And as the climate is mild year-round, driving is almost as easy in winter as it is in summer.
