Festival of Trees - Victoria - Victoria

Every year, Victoria's Festival of Trees transforms The Fairmont Empress into a lush forest of beautifully decorated trees to raise funds for BC Children's Hospital.

Sponsors, local businesses, organizations & individuals of this event come together & decorate trees - in a sometimes wacky, often irreverent & always beautiful fashion.

These enchanting trees are then displayed throughout The Fairmont Empress over the holiday season.

The 2013 Victoria Festival of Trees raised over $205,400 in support of the urgent needs at BC Children's Hospital.

More than 20,000 votes were cast for the 73 beautifully decorated trees during the seven weeks at The Fairmont.

Catch Lust Life Jazz Band at the Bengal Lounge for a great evening of cool jazz,and funky stuff. Featured musicians in The Victoria International JazzFest and many other events, Lust Life has been a staple of the Victoria BC and Vancouver Island music scene for many years. Frequently guest soloists join the band to offer their opinions in the language of jazz. The repertoire stems from the love of the jazz song form, the great American songbook and takes inspiration from jump jazz, blues, bebop, funk and swing. The stylings of Lust Life defy classical description.

Get musical with the Maritime Museum of British Columbia! MMBC programmers Kate Humble and Kirby Delaney will take you on a fun and tuneful journey through the music, dance and art of sailors from centuries past. Try to blow a pipe whistle, dare to dance a hornpipe jig and create your very own sea shanty using fun (and occasionally silly) nautical words and tunes! Get hands-on with hardtack and cannonballs, and learn to tie shipboard knots. But be warned, you'll probably leave singing! Register for just one day or sign up for the entire month! This event is limited to Kids' Club Members Only.

There will be a holiday market in which 30 vendors will be selling speciality products and unique holiday gifts for that special someone. If you'd like to purchase a vendor table and participate beginning Nov 1st, call quick as limited space. We will also use this time to take donations for the food bank. Outdoor Skating Rink - The Fairmont Empress - Victoria

Operating from November 20, 2014 until mid-January 2015, the approximately 60' x 90' covered rink will offer public skating 5pm - 9pm weekdays and 12pm to 9pm weekends. Skate rentals, Skate 'n Date nights and Family Skate afternoon are some of the ways to enjoy the tradition of winter skating. For groups there are Office Skates, Holiday Parties on Ice, and Break + Skate meeting options. Special seasonal festivities include Sunday Skates with Santa, and Christmas Eve Skating with the Elves, hot cocoa and cider. The cost is $10 per person, $5 for children aged 10 and under and rentals are available at $5 per pair.

Open Space partners once again with the City of Victoria for Commercial Alley's second installation, which features four new works by painter, performance artist, and poet Roy Green. The artist's series not only captures the spirit of some of the island's favourite winged cousins but also speaks to humanity's timeless preoccupation with flight and admiration of birds, evidenced throughout the histories of art, symbolism, and spirituality. Green's birds, iconic and indigenous to Vancouver Island, include the great blue heron, the pileated woodpecker, the rufous hummingbird, and the red-winged blackbird.
