Coastal Vancouver has plenty of ways to get around by ferry. The city is the central hub for BC Ferries sailings to Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and the Sunshine Coast, from two terminals located within 45 minutes of downtown.
The SeaBus is a passenger-only, 12-minute crossing between downtown Vancouver and the North Shore. Passenger hop-on/hop-off ferries and water taxis operate in False Creek and Burrard Inlet.
Additional private water taxis are available to nearby Bowen Island and the Sunshine Coast.
BC Ferries
BC Ferries offers scheduled vehicle and passenger service from Vancouver to the Gulf Islands, the Sunshine Coast, and Victoria and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.
There are two BC Ferries terminals in Greater Vancouver. The Tsawwassen terminal is located approximately 45 minutes south of downtown Vancouver, at the end of Highway 17. It services regularly scheduled sailings to/from Victoria, Nanaimo and the Gulf Islands.
The Horseshoe Bay terminal is located approximately 25 minutes northwest of downtown Vancouver, on Highway 1. It services regularly scheduled sailings to/from Nanaimo, Bowen Island and the Sunshine Coast.
SeaBus
The SeaBus is part of Vancouver's public transit system. It provides a passenger-only, 12-minute ferry crossing between Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver and Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver. It runs every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes in the evening.
Water Taxis
Aquabus and False Creek Ferries are private, hop-on/hop-off passenger-only water taxi services that provide scheduled service in False Creek to various points of interest along Vancouver's waterfront.
Private water taxis also shuttle visitors to nearby Bowen Island and the Sunshine Coast from downtown Vancouver.
