Every Thursday night from May - August, the Town's charming main street is closed to traffic and transformed into one of the most spectacular, festive street markets in British Columbia. With over 150 vendors offering everything from locally grown produce, handmade jewellery, one of a kind clothing, toys, flowers, handmade soaps, home-made breads, jams, fudge and so much more; there is something for everyone in the family! The Market attracts up to 5,000 people a night who all come to savour the flavours, see the sights and listen to the sounds of a myriad of musical performers.

Start your summer off with a bang! Step back in time with a walk through Nanaimo's oldest heritage building and visit three floors of museum exhibits. Visitor information is also available during Bastion operating hours. Experience the cannon firing re-enactment ceremony from 11:45-12:00 daily. On Thursdays and Saturdays in July and August only the cannon firing ceremony features Highland dance performances by youth from the Brigadoon Dance Academy. These dance performances are a tribute to the Scottish families that immigrated to Nanaimo in the 1850s. The Bastion is located on Front Street in downtown.
