Cross-Country Skiing in Manning Park
Manning Provincial Park (between Hope and Princeton) is a vast wilderness area in the Cascade Mountain Range. Strap on a pair of skinny skis and traverse through old-growth forest and untouched terrain along 160km/99mi of backcountry trails.
Cross-Country Skiing on the Sunshine Coast
Locals flock to the gentle hills and wide ridges of the popular Dakota Ridge Nordic area, where 13km/8mi of track-set, groomed trails await. Explore quiet snow-covered meadows and open fields, glide to higher peaks for spectacular views of the Coast Mountains and the Strait of Georgia, and defrost in the cozy warming hut. Alpha Adventures offers rentals, tours and lessons.
The Knuckleheads Recreation Area in Powell River is situated in a coastal snowbelt, so snow can linger as late as May. Find trails set on gently sloped terrain – perfect for beginners or families. Spend a day skiing, or pack gear into Mount Diadem Ski Club's rustic cabin for an overnight trip.
In remote Tetrahedron Provincial Park (northeast of Sechelt), choose between ungroomed cross-country trails, or bring backcountry climbing skins and discover easy-to-moderate ascents. Four wood-stove heated cabins allow for multi-day excursions – trek from hut to hut and take in spectacular sub-alpine surroundings.
Cross-Country Skiing near Squamish
Squamish is just north of Whistler – a major alpine and cross-country skiing destination – but it also offers a few Nordic trails close to town. Cut tracks through ungroomed, cross-country terrain in Brandywine Falls Provincial Park and turn an easy 3km/1.8mi trek into a more challenging adventure.
Prefer well-groomed trails? Head north to Whistler Olympic Park to find cross-country routes once used by Olympians.
