The brisk winds and waves of the Vancouver, Coast & Mountains region make this area an ideal destination for wind-surfing.
Popular Jericho Beach in Vancouver has 3km/1.9mi of beach and a wind-surfing school to teach beginners the tricks of the trade. Be sure to experience the spectacular winds in Squamish, just 40 minutes north of Vancouver in beautiful Sea to Sky Country.
The Squamish Spit is where the Squamish River meets the Howe Sound, and it is ranked by wind-riding addicts as one of the world's top ten places to set your sails. Even Sir Richard Branson, the owner of Virgin and notorious adventurer, has wind-surfed here. More high performace wind-surfing days on the water in Squamish are guaranteed than in most other places in North America.
Wind-surfing Safety Tips:
- Wear a wetsuit or drysuit
- Helmets, PFDs and whistles are all recommended
- Wind-surf with a buddy
- Do not obstruct the pathway of others on the water.
