Guest Ranches & Horseback Riding
Horseback riding (Albert Normandin photo)
Discover your inner cowboy as you take to the trails.
The Vancouver, Coast & Mountains region is home to a host of stables and ranches that offer both western and English riding. Horseback riding lessons are also available at a number of locations throughout the region.
Trot along the region's many riding trails: trek up majestic mountains, amble through fertile valleys, canter through rolling meadows, or walk in forested parks. You can even ride right in Metro Vancouver in Pacific Spirit Park. This region is also home to Langley, which bills itself as the "Horse Capital of BC."
In May, cheer on the pros at the Cloverdale Rodeo, BC's largest professional rodeo, or watch show jumping and dressage at Thunderbird Show Park.

Metro Vancouver
In Metro Vancouver, ride in Southlands on Vancouver’s west side. Trails follow the Fraser River and slowly twist and turn through stands of cedar and fir trees leading to Pacific Spirit Park near the Univeristy of British Columbia. Saddle up on the wilderness trail rides in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve on Vancouver's North Shore and ride through old-growth forests.
Mighty Fraser Country
Take guided or self-guided riding expeditions along the extensive park trails and riverside paths in Mighty Fraser Country. Ride along the more than 20 km/12mi of gravel-and-dirt trails in Golden Ears Provincial Park near Maple Ridge, or marvel at the spectacular views from historic trails at Manning Provincial Park (open to riders only in the summer). Take in lovely sweeping views of the Coast Mountains from along the Matsqui Dyke Trail, following a path alongside the might Fraser River.
Sea to Sky Country
Further north near Whistler, outfitters offer day trips through secluded forest trails, around lakes and across grassy meadows. In winter, join a day trip from Squamish to Brackendale and see bald eagles feeding on spawning salmon at the river's edge. Take an overnight trip and head high into the Chilcotin Mountain range, staying at a guest ranches in Gold Bridge or Bralorne.
Sunshine Coast
Horseback riding on the Sunshine Coast suits everyone's ability. Enjoy wide, open trails and mild slopes. Savour the tranquil coastline.
