In the Vancouver, Coast & Mountains region, art and museum fans, history buffs and those interested in Aboriginal culture are spoiled for choice.
There are science and nature exhibits, serene parks and gardens, brilliant viewpoints of (and from) mountain peaks, and an abundance of markets, wineries and farms in the fertile Fraser Valley.
Cross the surging Fraser River on an airtram, visit Fort Langley to interact with historic costumed characters, or wander through themed gardens near Chilliwack. The mine museum along the Sea-to-Sky Highway offers an underground train ride and the chance to pan for gold.
Take a sightseeing tour to enjoy multiple experiences.

Vancouver, Coast and Mountains Places of Interest
Here are a few ideas of attractions to experience in the Vancouver, Coast & Mountains region:
- Hell's Gate Airtram crosses a raging section of the Fraser River. Step off the tram and pan for gold, walk across a suspension bridge, take in a fisheries exhibit or nibble on treats from the Fudge Factory.
- At Fort Langley National Historic Site, historically accurate buildings and costumed characters transport visitors back to the early 19th-century fur trade era. Watch steel being forged, help shape a barrel, and squeeze through a warehouse chock full of authentic 1800s goods.
- Burnaby Village Museum recreates a 1920s community. Churn some butter and watch a blacksmith forge before visiting the theatre, printing press and school. No trip is complete without a ride on the brightly coloured restored 1912 wooden carousel!
- Minter Gardens’ 11 themed gardens are set against the backdrop of 2,130m/7,000ft Mt. Cheam. There's something to see in any season: 100,000 tulips in spring, scented rose gardens in summer, late-blooming perennials in fall, and flowering shrubs in the winter.
Family Attractions
At the Britannia Mine Museum, the whole family will enjoy watching mining demonstrations (the drills are powerful!), panning for real gold, and donning a hard hat for an underground train ride – with a "lights-out" moment for complete darkness.
