Northern Lights

Card-carrying foodies make their way to Northern Lights, affixed to the Haida-Way Motel. Chef Philip Kelly turns out pizzas, hot dogs and BLTs for the family crowd. He also struts his stuff with impeccably fresh fish from the pristine waters of Blackfish Sound. For lunch, he serves a seafood plate with battered halibut or lingcod, Fanny Bay oysters in panko crumbs and local spot prawns in coconut batter.

Seafood Spread

At dinner, Chef serves made-from-scratch clam chowder, rich and creamy and loaded with clams. He sauces pasta in smoked salmon cream, then piles it high with halibut, shrimps, mussels, bay scallops, chives and sea asparagus. And, oh my, the salmon: Massive, perfectly char-grilled fillet of chinook shows up with spot prawns in garlic and butter.
