Professional & Spectator Sports
Spectators at a hockey game (Kevin Arnold photo)
It's not surprising Surrey has an appetite for professional and spectator sports: nearly one-third of Surrey's population of 461,000 is under 25 years old.
Sporting excitement pervades this growing city, whether it's at the rodeo, racetrack, or rink.
Cloverdale Rodeo
For more than 60 years, the Cloverdale Rodeo (6050A-176 St) has attracted fans of bareback riding, bull riding, and saddle bronc riding during the Victoria Day long weekend (third weekend in May). It's the fifth-biggest rodeo in North America, and featured four world champions in front of more than 18,200 spectators in 2010.
After cheering on the cowboys and cowgirls, check out the agricultural exhibits and hop on the midway rides at the Country Fair.

Junior Hockey in Surrey
Playing at the South Surrey Arena (2199-148 St), the Surrey Eagles compete in "Junior A" hockey in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). The team won the league title in 1997, 1998, and 2005, and its best-known graduate is NHL star Scott Gomez.
Tickets for the 2010-11 season are priced at $13 for adults and $7 for children, making the Eagles an affordable, family-friendly hockey experience.
Kabbadi
Get an intriguing taste of the Indian subcontinent, by watching the sport of Kabbadi, which includes elements of wrestling and rugby, at Sullivan Heights Park (14426-64 Ave). The Kabbadi field is the only purpose-built Kabbadi facility in North America.
