Sun Peak's hiking trails are designed to accommodate various levels of fitness and experience so that all visitors can enjoy the unique experience of alpine hiking.
Whether on a guided tour or independently setting out, hikers will find an endlessly diverse terrain with flat areas, gradual inclines, and steep climbs.
Hiking in and around Sun Peaks is a great way to spot bird species including Blue Herons, Bald Eagles, and Hummingbirds.
During summer the mountains become a kaleidoscope of color with wildflowers like with Artic Lupin, Dwarf Dogwood, Fireweed and Larkspur, blossoming from the village high into the alpine. And there's always the chance of seeing bears, coyotes, and other wildlife on the trails leading from the Sunburst Express chairlift.

Sun Peaks Trails
Sun Peaks' hiking trails are rated and clearly marked easy, moderate, and advanced. One of the most traveled trails is the Crystal Bowl Look trails, an easy-to-moderate hike through the low alpine area. It intersects with the Top of the World Trail.
One of the most challenging hiking routes is the Great Elevations Trail leading to the top of Tod Mountain. The summit offers a breathtaking view of the alpine and valley, and visitors can commemorate their journey by adding a rock to the cairn at the peak. A more moderate hike (just one steep section), with almost the same spectacular views, is the Top of the World Trail. In late July and early August, alpine wildflowers are in full bloom.
Guided Hiking Tours
Chose from several guided hiking tours, all of which begin and end at the Village Day Lodge. Want to know more about bears? The Bear Tracks Eco Tour takes hikers into Black Bear habitat. Not to worry about meeting one. The tour is more about learning about these bears than meeting one. Experienced local interpretive guides explain Black Bear behavior, habitat, winter survival adaptations, and how to properly handle a bear encounter.
