Summerland is surrounded by farms and orchards. Agricultural roots run deep with a long tradition of cattle ranching and fruit growing. A federal government agricultural research station was established in Summerland in 1914 (now the Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre) and many fruit varieties have been developed there.

Summerland remains an agricultural community and the tradition continues to evolve with vineyards  joining orchards on the sunny slopes. Fresh produce is readily available in season, from markets or U-pick, and local attractions make it easy to enjoy the area's farms and orchards.

Dickinson Farm

Climb the world's tallest tripod orchard ladder for a photo op at Dickinson Farm. At over 9m/30ft, this ladder deserves its place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Walk among the cherry and pear trees, join the U-pick fun in season and turn the kids loose to play on the vintage farm tractors.
