Farms & Markets

Summerland is surrounded by farms and orchards. Agricultural roots run deep with a long tradition of cattle ranching and fruit growing.

A federal government agricultural research station was established in Summerland in 1914 (now the Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre) and many fruit varieties have been developed there.

Summerland remains an agricultural community and the tradition continues to evolve with vineyards  joining orchards on the sunny slopes. Fresh produce is readily available in season, from markets or U-pick, and local attractions make it easy to enjoy the area's farms and orchards.

Dickinson Farm

Climb the world's tallest tripod orchard ladder for a photo op at Dickinson Farm. At over 9m/30ft, this ladder deserves its place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Walk among the cherry and pear trees, join the U-pick fun in season and turn the kids loose to play on the vintage farm tractors.

Our family has been farming along the east shore of Skaha Lake for over 60 years. We grow 15 varieties of apples, 7 varieties of peaches along with plums, pears, table grapes, raspberries, tomatoes, corn and much more. Fruit is picked fresh daily and sold direct from the farm. More than your average fruit stand, it is constructed of straw bales, stucco and reclaimed wood. Matheson Creek Farm is truly a perfect place to experience some of the freshest fruit you will ever have.
