Skiing & Snowboarding
Skiing (Canadian Tourism Commission photo)
Lots of sunshine and snow – 700cm/276in of dry powder on average every year – bring skiers and snowboarders to Silver Star Mountain Resort from late November through mid-April.
These conditions have repeatedly won the resort "Best Powder" accolades and a "Best Weather" award from Ski Canada Magazine.
Silver Star Terrain
The 1,240ha/3,064ac of terrain includes 115 runs. The longest is 8km/5mi and the maximum vertical is 760m/2,500ft. Look for green or blue ratings on 55 per cent of the runs; newbies can get started in special areas set aside for beginners.
There's no shortage of black diamond action and 10 per cent of runs are rated extreme, with double black diamond adventure.
Check out the glades and terrain features in the Attridge area or head for the steep and deep chutes of Putnam Creek off the Powder Gulch Express chair.

Terrain Parks
Silver Star offers 6.5ha/16ac of major action in the Rockstar Terrain Park and Rail Garden with lots of table tops, step-up jumps and spines. Take on a mix of metal to grind with wide rails, minis, flats, kinks, rainbows and boxes. Looking to get air for the first time? Head to the beginner terrain park for small jumps and rails.
Uncrowded Feel
With 10 downhill lifts, including the Comet 6 Pack Express, four quad chairs, a double chair, T-bar and three magic carpets, the mountain doesn't feel crowded and skiers and snowboarders spend their time on the slopes and not in line-ups. Mid-week all winter and on warm spring weekends, when downhillers have defected to Vernon golf courses, it feels like there's nobody else on the mountain. Night skiing is available Friday and Saturday through the end of March.
Snowsports School
Hone those skills with group or private lessons. Silver Star also offers programs for kids aged 4-14, as well as special group sessions for ladies on Tuesdays and men on Wednesdays. Skiers who want to feel the thrill of running the gates can test their skills on Silver Star's race course.
Silver Star Adaptive Snowsports
People with disabilities can join the downhill action with the help of Silver Star Adaptive Snowsports volunteers.
