Skiing & Snowboarding

RED Mountain has been modernized over the past few years.
With an expanded and rennovated day lodge and modern, luxury accomodations, RED is a place to discover. RED Mountain's 88 runs are divided by skill level as follows: 15 per cent beginner, 40 per cent intermediate, and 45 per cent advanced. All skiers and snowboarders will appreciate the spacious slopes where crowding is never a concern.
Red Mountain is a great place to hone skills. There is something about the terrain here that encourages improvement. Start with a gentle more forgiving slope and progress at an individual pace. Of course, advanced skiers can immediately head for deep powder on steep slopes. Those looking for a little more solitude can head into the backcountry.
Deep and Steep
According to Ski Canada Magazine, Red Mountain Resort has the Best Powder and Best Fall Line Steeps. From the top of the resort's two mountain peaks – Red Mountain and Granite Mountain – stands of subalpine trees and glades fan out in every direction and the terrain is seriously steep.
Take the Motherlode Chair to the top of Granite and check out the double black diamond Slides, known for deep powder that lasts into the afternoon, and for a consistent fall line. If the wind is blowing, keep going past the Slides into the Roots area – a predictable powder trap.
Practical Points
- The area beyond the boundary is prone to avalanches. Before heading out, be sure to check the avalanche bulletin posted in the Day Lodge.
- Avalanche safety courses are offered on a regular basis.
- Rentals for downhills skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are available at Red Sports in the base area.
