The Prince George area has a number of lakes and some rivers that offer abundant freshwater fishing opportunities near town or within an hour's drive of the city.
Fishing trips can also be arranged via local suppliers.
Highlight Fishing Spots
Ferguson Lake (Highway 97 north, left on Kelly Rd 1km/0.6mi) is the first fishery within Prince George city limits. The lake is stocked with brook and rainbow trout. It has a new fishing dock, clean water, and a park. Motorized boats are not allowed on this lake.
Eena Lake (north on Highway 97 to Chief Lake Rd, Eena Lake Rd. Woods Rd and Quinn Rd) is a beautiful site with a gravel boat launch. This lake is a great place for family fishing, with a quieter atmosphere than other fully motorized lakes. The only motorized boats permitted on Eena Lake are electric boats. Rainbow trout is the main fish found at Eena Lake.

Tabor Lake (15km/9mi east on Highway 16 and right on Giscome Rd) is a medium-sized lake that reaches a depth of 8m/27ft. This lake is recommended for fishing wild rainbow trout, with the best opportunities in the spring. A public boat launch is found at the north end of the lake, and a private boat launch is found near the south end of the lake.
Purden Lake, in Purden Lake Provincial Park, (60km/37mi east on Highway 16) is a beautiful large lake. There is a concrete boat launch and a wide beach for swimming, and a day-use picnic area. Along the shores of this lake, the forest grows right to the banks. Stocked rainbow trout and wild burbot can be fished at this lake.
Hart Lake, in Crooked River Provincial Park, (70km/43mi north on Highway 97) is a fantastic place to fish for huge stocked rainbow trout, Dolly Varden and Rocky Mountain whitefish. Crooked River Provincial Park has a camping area, a day-use area, and a children's playground.
The Nechako River (in Prince George) is by far the best river for fishing near Prince George, with clear water and one of the best salmon runs in British Columbia. One location where anglers can try their hand at catching salmon is at the boat launch at Cottonwood Island Park in Prince George.
