Of all the Northern BC communities, Prince George has the best shopping selection and has stores ranging from small, local businesses to bigger chains.
The city is a good spot to stop and load up on supplies if driving further north or heading down south.
Shopping Downtown
A variety of locally owned stores are found in downtown Prince George, especially along 3rd and 4th Avenue, also known as "Specialty Avenue." Within just a few blocks, there are art stores, consignment stores, pawnshops, second hand stores, boutiques, kitchen and bath shops, import furniture, hardware and more.
Northern Hardware, a localized branch of Home Hardware, carries just about anything a person could need. It has been a keystone in Prince George for many years, and has the look and feel of a place that collects things.

Meow Records (100 - 300 Brunswick St) is a tiny basement record store for hard-core music lovers, selling vinyl records and CDs. It was chosen through a national CBC radio contest as the #1 record store in Canada in 2007-2008.
Homework (1299 3rd Ave) has a high-end selection of kitchen, bedroom and other home decor items. Books & Company (1685 3rd Ave) is a great place to have a snack or a coffee while shopping for books. There are many other stores worth checking out in this small area. Shops tend to close pretty early, and in the early evening, downtown can feel rather quiet and empty.
While walking downtown, keep a look out for large eagle and bear statues. Local artists have painted a variety of designs and scenes on these sculptures as part of a BC Lions Society fundraising project. Various businesses have purchased these statues and displayed them along the street.
