Fabulous fishing is a trademark of Pitt Meadows, just like its next-door neighbour, Maple Ridge.

Just 45 minutes east of Vancouver, this rural community nestles on the banks of the Fraser River, which abounds with huge sturgeon and salmon. For freshwater fishing, fishers can turn to local lakes to reel in rainbow trout, cutthroat, and other fish.

Five Types of Salmon

The Fraser River, Pitt River, and Harrison River are all great bets for reeling in big salmon in this world-class fishing region. There are five major types of salmon that can be caught here at different times of the year: Chinook, Chum, Pink, Sockeye, and Coho. Chinook, also known as "king salmon," can weigh more than 18kg/40lbs apiece. The best salmon fishing is typically between June and November.
