Wineries & Vineyards

Osoyoos is a convenient base for touring the wineries and vineyards of the southern Okanagan Valley.
Several are located in and around the town itself while the Golden Mile and Black Sage Bench regions lie immediately to the north. Although there are some large corporate operations in the area, the many estate wineries retain an individual style and personal touch.
Wine Touring
Most wineries around Osoyoos are open year round for tasting and tours, some seasonally or by appointment. Expect to find solid table wines and wines of true distinction - reds, whites, rosés, sparkling wines and Icewines - recognized internationally with a host of awards in prestigious competitions.
Winery Dining
Pair a vintage with specially crafted dishes at a winery restaurant or with local artisan cheeses and nibbles for an impromptu picnic on the winery grounds. The views are as good as the wines.

Be sure to appoint a designated driver, learn to spit, or leave the driving to a local tour guide such as Napa North Wine Tours or Divine Valley Tour Company.
Osoyoos Wineries
Nk'Mip Cellars is North America's first Aboriginal owned and operated winery. With some of the Okanagan Valley's oldest vines (planted as early as 1968), Nk'Mip is producing wines of distinction repeatedly recognized with international awards.
The Patio restaurant features aboriginal-inspired cuisine from May through October, while Passatempo is an upscale bistro at the adjacent Spirit Ridge Vineyard Resort and Spa.
Twisted Tree Winery and LaStella are later arrivals that are adding a new dimension to the Osoyoos wine scene.
The Golden Mile
Wineries of The Golden Mile are located north of Osoyoos on the western slopes of the valley. Well-drained gravel, clay and sandy soils produce varietals such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer.
Wineries in this area run the gamut from the log cabin tasting room of Fairview Cellars to the sophistication of Inniskillin Okanagan and the upscale Tinhorn Creek complex, which offers a self-guided tour of the demonstration vineyard and barrel room along with concerts and theatrical performances in its outdoor amphitheatre.
Black Sage Bench
Across the valley and also stretching north, the Black Sage Bench region rests on very deep sand deposits. It produces such wines as Chardonnay, Shiraz and Bordeaux varietals.
Quinta Ferreira is a family operation making wines in the Portuguese style while Black Hills boasts a celebrity connection. Burrowing Owl Estate Winery, probably the best-known winery in this area, hosts upscale guest rooms and the Sonora Room restaurant. Take the self-guided tour of the bell tower, interpretive displays, cellars and viewing platform.
Drop by the British Columbia Visitor Centre @ Osoyoos, junction of Highways 3 and 97, for winery brochures, maps and information on guided tours.
