In the winter months, spectator sports in Northern BC communities means hockey and sled-dog racing. From September to March, hockey fans can cheer on teams at the Coliseum or the Multiplex in Prince George. The city is home to a the Spruce Kings (BC Hockey League) and Cougars (Western Hockey League).

Dog enthusiasts will want to view the Telkwa Gold Sled Dog Championships, held just outside Telkwa, as well as the Canadian Open Championship that has been running for over 40 years in Fort Nelson. Both are two-day events.
