Nimpo Lake is a prize-catch for anglers exploring the endless waterways of the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast region. However, exciting outdoor options do not stop at fishing.
The Turner Lake chain and the Nazko Lake chain are a major draw for canoeists and kayakers. The rolling wilderness landscape surrounding the area's lakes and rivers is abundant with wildlife and bird species, and ideal for hiking. Extend any one of these day-trip activities into multi-day adventures camping at nearby provincial parks or staying at an authentic ranch.
Nimpo Lake offers anglers easy access to some of the best fishing in British Columbia, and also has in-town equipment rentals and convenient travel options. Floatplanes charter anglers to more than two dozen secluded wilderness lake and rivers. Paddlers are equally taken care of in Nimpo Lake. Canoe rentals are readily available and waterway options, including the Turner Lake and Nazko Lake chains, are without limit.
Land Activities
Short groomed-trail jaunts, day-trips, and multi-day excursions are all excellent hiking choices in Nimpo Lake. Of course, it is always important to pick a trail or route appropriately suited to personal fitness level. While casual hikers can stick close to Nimpo Lake, those with higher endurance may want to try alpine- or heli-hiking.
The Nimpo Lake area is outstanding for its horseback riding. Trail rides range from two-hour rides to multi-day pack trips. Ride through Tweedsmuir Provincial Park's Rainbow Mountain Range to view the Monarch Ice Fields, or travel through the area's culture and history along the Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail. The Elegesi Qiyus Wild Horse Preserve, encompassing the Brittany Triangle, the Nemiah Valley, and most of Ts'yl'os Provincial Park is home to wild horses in a natural habitat.
Winter Activities
In winter, check out Tweedsmuir Provincial Park and Itcha Igachuz Provincial Park for excellent snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Stick to maintained trails or cut a fresh powder pathway. The Tatla Lake Annual Ski Challenge and Tweedsmuir Ski Club's Annual Cross-country Ski Race are winter highlights.
Flightseeing Tours
Take to the air on a flightseeing tour of Nimpo Lake and the surrounding area. Views can include Hunlen Falls, Mount Waddington, and the Monarch Ice Fields in the heavily glaciated Coast Mountain Range. Tweedsmuir Air, based out of Stewart's Lodge in Nimpo Lake, and Lakes District Air, based out of Vagabond RV Park and Resort, offer flightseeing trips. White Saddle Air Service offers helicopter tours.
Guest Ranches
All season guest ranches such as the Chezacut Wilderness Ranch and Terra Nostra Guest Ranch provide real wild west experiences. These include riding tours, cattle and sheep drives, horsemanship retreats, hiking and fly-in fishing. In winter Chezacut also offers sleigh rides, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.
