Beaches & Swimming

Nakusp has an amazing sandy beach conveniently located near its downtown area.
A variety of fun family-friendly water activities are available here. As well, beaches are found not far from town at McDonald Creek Provincial Park and Summit Lake Provincial Park.
Nakusp Beach
The Nakusp beach, right next to downtown, has a grove of deciduous trees that provide comfortable shade and beautiful yellow sand considered top notch for building sandcastles and sculptures.
On a warm summer's day, check out the groomed volleyball court, the floating-dock waterslide anchored just offshore, and the roped-off swimming area. Get out on the water in a rental canoe or powerboat. A popular paddling or boating destination is Fosthall Falls on the opposite side of the lake.

Summit Lake
Summit Lake Provincial Park has a shale and pebble beach surrounding warm waters. The lake (on Highway 6, 18km/11mi southeast of Nakusp) is a popular spot with locals. Summit Lake is an excellent flatwater canoeing and kayaking destination.
