Nakusp's close geographical proximity to Arrow Lake and the Monashee and Selkirk mountains ensures a wide selection of outdoor activity options, such as hiking, cycling, camping, kayaking, swimming, and fishing.
Nakusp is also known as a relaxation hub with several nearby hot springs and spas and wellness facilities. While the village is quite packed during festival weekends, it is otherwise a safe bet for escaping the crowd.
Hiking in Nakusp ranges from easy strolls along the Waterfront Walk to short treks among western redcedars to challenging climbs toward Saddle Mountain Lookout. Venture out to the Naumulten Lodge, which sits at 2,208m/7,285ft in the Valkyr Range above the village of Burton. Use this backcountry lodge as a base for a self-guided or Valkyr Adventures' professionally guided alpine hiking trips.
Later, soothe aching muscles in the mineral waters of Halcyon Hot Springs, or indulging in a hot stone massage at Halcyon's spa. Find a quiet spot on Nakusp Beach, or play a relaxing nine holes at the Nakusp Centennial Golf Club or the Fauquier and District Golf Club.
Cycle the abandoned rail line from Nakusp to Summit Lake, or horseback ride with Galloping Hills Adventures. May through September take a one-hour horse-drawn carriage ride (beginning at the Nakusp Museum) through the village of Nakusp, or a backcountry wagon tour in the Box Lake Area. Summer through fall, shop for produce, crafts, and jewelry at the Nakusp Farmer's Market. Check out local galleries with the help of an Artwalk brochure (available at the Nakusp Visitor Centre).
