Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing (Canadian Tourism Commission photo)
Mount Washington Alpine Resort has received a "Best Snowshoeing Award" from Ski Canada magazine.
The mountain is blessed with an ideal combination of deep powder, varied terrain, moderate winter temperatures, and amazing natural surroundings. Guided tours, lessons, and equipment rentals are all available at the resort.
Raven Lodge
Snowshoeing activities at Mount Washington are centred at Raven Lodge. From here, two tours are available: an interpretive two-hour tour covers basic snowshoe techniques, safety, and snow awareness. The other, offered on weekends, leads snowshoers through stands of old-growth forest in the heart of the Strathcona Provincial Park, and returns to the lodge afterwards for fondue.
Strathcona Provincial Park
Strathcona Provincial Park, established in 1911, is the oldest and largest park in the Vancouver Island region. It has a stunning wilderness setting comprising snow-capped peaks and untouched forests, lakes, and rivers.

Trails in the park, such as Paradise Meadows, are set for beginners, while advanced snowshoers carve out their own routes. Backcountry snowshoeing is also possible, but it is important to check avalanche warnings before embarking.
Check with the Comox Valley Visitor Centre in Courtenay for more information about snowshoeing in the area.
