Mount Robson Fishing
Fishing, Tourism BC/JF Bergeron photo
Mount Robson Provincial Park has several fishing locations: Portal and Whitney Lakes contain small Rainbow Trout, while Dolly Varden, Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout, Kokanee and Whitefish populate Yellowhead and Moose Lakes. Salmon fishing on the Fraser River in nearby Valemount is also an option.
Fishing Locations
Beyond the park's boundaries, one of the easiest fishing spots to access is Kinbasket Lake, a reservoir extending from the southern edge of Valemount to the Revelstoke dam. Kinbasket is an excellent location for Rainbow Trout, Bull Trout, and Whitefish, which congregate in the many creeks that feed the reservoir. Boat launches for Kinbasket are found along the Canoe Forest Road, about 24km/15mi south of Valemount.
Located east of Tete Jaune on Highway 16, Little Lost Lake usually provides a good catch of Rainbow Trout. Shere Lake, 33km/20.5mi Northwest of Valemount, has plenty of Brook Trout.

Winter Fishing
Canoe River, 8km/5mi south of Valemount on Highway 5, has a heavy run of Rocky Mountain White Fish each year from late-October until late-March. Rainbow and Bull Trout can be fished in the river before and after high water.
Guided Fishing
While many fishers venture out on their own with a map, experienced guides can provide direction to local hotspots, and teach inexperienced fishers how to fly-fish. Bustin' Trout is a popular guiding operation, which conducts fishing tours in the Valemount and the Robson Valley area.
Drop by the Mount Robson Provincial Park Visitor Centre for more information about fishing in the area and obtaining necessary fishing licenses.
