Art Galleries & Artists
Glass artwork (Danielle Hayes photo)
Like other BC Gulf Islands, Mayne Island is home to a vibrant arts community.
Shows are mounted regularly at the Agricultural Hall. The public library uses its wall space to display local work. And various artists turn out weekly at the summer Farmer's Market on Saturdays in Miners Bay to talk art and sell their wares.
Art Galleries
Several retail spaces are dedicated to local, Gulf Islands and BC artists. Three of particular note are in the Fernhill Centre (574 Fernhill Road) next door to the Wild Fennel Restaurant. En-Vision Gallery is a one-stop arts mecca packed with the work of such Mayne Islanders as Coast Salish sculptor John Atkin, garden gnome specialist Darrell J. Perfumo and photographer Toby Snelgrove,
The McKenzie Fine Art Gallery showcases original work and prints by Alex Colville-style west coast realist painter Jim McKenzie. Also in this small complex is the Treefrog Gallery, which carries local art along with hemp and organic cotton clothing.
