Dining in the small community of Lumby is geared to locals, to travellers passing through on Highway 6 (Vernon St) and to supplying people who are self-catering at campgrounds and rustic lodges. Don't look for chain restaurants or fast-food outlets, but there's still plenty of opportunity for burgers, pizza and Chinese at mom and pop-style eateries. Lumby also boasts a restaurant known throughout the region for its specialty schnitzel.

Coffee and Pastry

Locals head for Ida's Bakery (1980 Vernon St) where the aroma of fresh pastries, pies and sweet treats is nearly overwhelming. Stop for a java break or light lunch.

Pub Fare

The Blue Ox Pub (1643 Vernon St) serves all the standard appies and roadhouse specials in a large, friendly room, dominated by a golden oak bar.

Continental Cuisine

Hubert's Family Restaurant is a regional legend. In summer, people drive from cities in the Thompson Okanagan to take in some rays on the flower-decked patio and indulge in homemade European treats. Schnitzel is the feature specialty, but omelettes and Eggs Benny reign supreme at breakfast time.

Pizza Plus

Lumby hosts two pizza shops that provide the homemade touch. Along with the obvious, Frieda's Pizza (2095 Shuswap Ave) sells slices, wraps, subs and ice cream.

Ana's Pizza (2090 Norris Ave) is the do-it-yourself gourmet's friend with take-and-bake pizza and pasta, ready made to bake in the RV or at the fishing lodge. Other specialties include homemade burgers, chicken and St Louis-style ribs.

Chinese

When the craving strikes, nothing but Chinese will do. Pagoda Inn (1887 Vernon St) does all the standard dishes, combo plates and buffet on weekends.

Health Food Habit
