The Kootenay Rockies region is comprised of four mountain ranges (the Monashees, Purcells, Selkirks, and Rockies) and provides incredible terrain for rock climbing and mountaineering.

Guided tour operators in the region accommodate various levels of ability and experience, providing both instruction and proper equipment (rental or supplied). Tours range from day climbs to multi-day mountaineering adventures. However, well-equipped and experienced climbers and mountaineers can venture out, self-guided, on an endless numbers of routes.

The Bugaboos are synonymous with spectacular rock climbing and mountaineering. Known as the "Bugs," this area is one of Canada's best climbing destinations, noted for its distinctive steep granite spires that pierce through surrounding glaciers.

Sport climbing buffs will find a number of popular areas around Nelson and Slocan. As well, Yoho National Park is a terrific location intermediate-expert climbing and mountaineering adventurers.
