Every Sunday in Summer, Fernie's Downtown comes alive with the sights, smells, sounds and fun of the Mountain Market and Summer Socials.

From 10:00 am-2:00 pm peruse local crafts, produce and art at the Mountain Market in Rotary Park while the kids enjoy the large playground.

Then from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm, head to Historic Downtown Fernie and 2nd Avenue for the Summer Social. Each week a different theme is celebrated, from Classic Cars to Sports and Games, with lots of activities to keep the kids entertained while the adults relax in the beverage garden and enjoy live entertainment.

Live theatre Tuesday to Saturday. There will be two shows: an adult comedy Self Help at Centre 64 and The Wizard of Oz for the whole family at the McKim Theatre (Aug 3-9 and 12-14 at 7:30 pm). Self Help (July 9-27 at 7:30 pm; July 10,13, 17, 20, 24, 27 at 2:00 pm) is for an adult audience and tickets are $23. Tickets for Oz are $23, children 3-12 years $13.

Watch the best riders compete to be crowned #1 in Canada in this white-knuckle-adrenaline-fanatic-super-intense sport. There are tons of great viewing sports for fans along the course that will get you close to the action. If you want to have the ultimate spectator experience volunteer as a course marshall.

Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC's 10 year anniversary celebration at the Kootenay Trout Hatchery - a great family event. The Hatchery is located 32 km (20 mi) southeast of Cranbrook. Entertainment, food and educational activities.

The Fernie Writers' Conference is a celebration of writers and writing with courses, readings, panel discussions and other events forming a educational experience for writers and readers alike.

The conference brings award-winning writers from across Canada to instruct, read and present to a diverse audience from BC and beyond.

The conference culminates with a two-day festival of writing and reading that is open to all.

The Heart of the Rockies Triathlon is an Olympic Distance Triathlon. The swim takes place in Lake Windermere, followed by an out & back cycle route & a single lap out & back run. It's a spectacular venue in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, with stunning views of Lake Windermere & the mountains. The Heart of the Rockies Triathlon is thrilled to have several family groups participate in both the individual & team events. Come and participate or spectate.
