Klemtu Kayaking & Canoeing
Kayaking, Shawna Hinsche photo
Deep fjords, isolated beaches, soaring slopes, and temperate rainforests create an ideal setting for kayaking. Klemtu is located on the Central Coast, an area well suited to kayak exploration, with archipelagos that extend to Hakaii Provincial Park and fjords stretching deep into Fjordland Recreation Area.
Spirit Bear Adventures offers information about a number of kayak trips through the local channels and fjords, and the locations of various cabins, which have been built throughout the territory for self-supported travelers to use.
Kayaking Areas
Prime areas for kayaking include Klemtu to Higgins Pass and Kitasu Bay on West Swindle, as well as the Northern Price Islands. Kayakers should be ready for extreme weather conditions, particularly in the areas between land and open waters, such as between Higgins Pass and Kitasu Bay.

Other highlight areas include Laredo Sound, Fjordland Recreation Area, and Princess Royal Island. To cover these areas adequately plan on spending at least 5-10 days. The Kermode, or Spirit Bear, can be spotted on Princess Royal Island, which is a 12km/7.5mi paddle north from Klemtu. As well, the coast contains more than 100 sites of cultural significance.
