The Music and Friends Festival aims to promote the development of music and arts in Kitimat. Every year, the outdoor music festival donates part of its profit to a local charity. The festival, which takes place on a large field overlooking the ocean in Kitamaat Village (a 20-minute drive east of town) lasts two days in July and hosts musicians from around the Northern British Columbia and the rest of the province. Enjoy the music and the view, during this day and evening festival.
New Festivals & Events
Winterfest and Mud Bog are two newer, likely to become annual, community events. Winterfest celebrates the winter months for two weeks in February, and features daytime and nighttime activities for all ages, such as snowboarding rail jams, magic shows, ice mazes, and live music concerts. Mud Bog has participants' getting down and dirty to the crowd's delight, roaring their ATVs through muddy courses close to town. It's a thrill to watch.
Kitimat also hosts several golf tournaments throughout the summer, seasonal craft fairs, skating competitions, dragon boat races, swim meets, curling bonspiels, and soccer and basketball tournaments. For a more complete list of year-round festivals and events, visit or call the Kitimat Visitor Centre, located on the east side of Highway 37, immediately before entering town.
